Herbs

Honky Tonk Farms & Apothecary grows high-quality, soil-grown teas and herbs to keep our community and our ecosystem healthy.

Our Herbs

Our herbs grow in the soil, without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides. We rely on healthy soil, organic matter like worm castings, and a strong ecosystem to grow strong plants and keep pests in check.

When they're ready to harvest, we hand pick our herbs, dry them, and package them with instructions on how you can brew them into delicious herbal tea (also known as a tisane). Infusing herbs in water imparts the herbs’ compounds into the water, making a flavorful and healthy beverage.

Honky Tonk Farms & Apothecary currently grows:

  • Hibiscus (Hibiscus sabdariffa), also known as sorrel or roselle

  • Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum), also known as holy basil

Our Teas

All black, green, white, and oolong teas come from the same plant: Camellia sinensis. It’s native to East and Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent, and it’s in the same family as the ornamental camellias popular in Southern landscaping.

The method of harvest and post-harvest preparation determine what type of tea the leaves become as well as the flavor profiles and caffeine level of the finished tea. Honky Tonk Farms & Apothecary’s tea shrubs are currently too young to harvest leaves from, so follow along as they grow.
